This is a very seldom seen Steiff Rub-A-Dub-Dub Set, #013100 in a Limited Edition #255 of 2000. The wooden tub, "SS Steiff", holding the three bears has metal bands and all the parts are included and are in mint condition. The three bears are the Butcher with his meat cleaver and sausage, the Baker with his mixing spoon and the Candlestick Maker with his candlestick.
Each of the three bears has their Steiff ear buttons and white cloth tags which say "Steiff KNOPF IM OHR 0131/23" on the Butcher (or 0131/24 on the Candlestick Maker and 0131/25 on the Baker) and on the back it says "Made in Western-Germany" with the materials information. Attached to their chest with a plastic tie is the cleaning instruction tag and a round white paper identification and Edition Number tag.
Each bear is made of Mohair, with black eyes, a brown stitched nose, mouth, and claws, felt paws and is jointed. They are dressed in clothes appropriate for their profession. They are nine inches tall. These bears are still sitting in their tub, with their work tools sealed in the original plastic bag, and with the Steiff flag. They have their original blue box with their picture on it.
This wonderful Steiff creation is based on the 14th Century nursery rhyme - "Hey, rub-a-dub, ho, rub-a-dub, three maids in a tub. And who do you think were there? The butcher, the baker, the candlestick maker, and all of them going to the fair." The box has a slightly different version, but this is common with this nursery rhyme. The box also says, "Aboard the SS STEIFF are three Steiff bears, dressed as the characters from a favorite old nursery rhyme, setting sail for high adventures. Be-decked in outfits of their profession, they take with them, the tools of their trade,
